A traffic stop conducted early Thursday morning by deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the arrest of a Toccoa man on multiple drug and firearm charges.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies initiated a traffic stop at approximately 2:55 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, involving a silver Mercury sedan traveling on East Tugaloo Street near Short Street in Toccoa.
The driver was identified as 33-year-old Rosevelt Trimiar of Toccoa.
During the stop, deputies deployed K-9 Ria to conduct a free-air sniff around the vehicle. Authorities said K-9 Ria positively alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics, giving deputies probable cause to search the vehicle.
During the search, deputies reportedly discovered suspected methamphetamine, a large quantity of suspected marijuana, numerous plastic baggies commonly associated with narcotics packaging, drug-related objects containing residue, multiple rounds of ammunition, and a handgun.
Trimiar was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Stephens County Detention Center.
He faces multiple charges, including:
Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance
Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Possession of Drug-Related Objects
Authorities said Trimiar remains incarcerated on a $56,000 bond.
