A suspect was shot and killed Wednesday after opening fire on deputies during a pursuit along Interstate 85, according to the Banks County Sheriff’s Office.
Police say the incident occurred April 8 near the 150-mile marker on I-85.
Deputies were responding to a BOLO issued out of Jackson County in connection with a reported road rage incident when they located the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop.
Authorities said the driver refused to stop, leading deputies on a pursuit. During the incident, deputies executed a PIT maneuver to bring the vehicle to a stop. Investigators said the suspect then began firing at deputies, who returned fire and struck the individual.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No deputies were injured.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been requested to lead the investigation. Further information will be released by the GBI.
