Piedmont University Celebrates 114 Graduates During Summer Commencement

More than 100 students celebrated a major academic milestone Friday as Piedmont University conferred degrees during its summer commencement ceremony on July 17.

The ceremony, held at the Johnny Mize Athletic Center on Piedmont’s Demorest campus, recognized 114 graduates completing undergraduate and advanced degree programs.

Sixteen students received undergraduate degrees, including three who became the first generation in their families to earn a college degree. Another 98 students earned graduate-level credentials, including master’s, Education Specialist and doctoral degrees.

Piedmont University President Marshall M. Criser III congratulated the graduates and recognized the family members, friends and others who supported them throughout their educational journeys.

“Congratulations to all our graduates and their families, friends, and supporters. Graduation is a life-changing milestone. We are proud to welcome you to the Piedmont alumni family,” Criser said.

Piedmont University Board of Trustees member Dock Sisk served as the guest speaker for the ceremony, addressing graduates as they prepared to move from the classroom into the next chapter of their lives and careers.

Friday's commencement represented years of work and perseverance for the graduates, from those completing their first college degrees to professionals earning advanced credentials in their respective fields.

The three first-generation college graduates also marked a significant milestone for their families, becoming the first to reach a goal that can open doors for future generations.

With diplomas in hand, the members of Piedmont University's newest graduating class now join the university's alumni community, carrying their education into careers and communities throughout Georgia and beyond.
