Families filled the halls of Hazel Grove Elementary School (HGES)
Monday evening, April 7, as the school hosted a special Arts & Academics Night, celebrating the creativity and imagination of its students.
From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., students, teachers, parents and grandparents had the opportunity to walk through the school and view artwork created by students across multiple grade levels. The event transformed the school into a vibrant gallery, with colorful paintings, drawings, and creative projects lining the hallways and classrooms.
The evening was designed not only to showcase student talent but also to strengthen the partnership between school and home. Classrooms throughout the building offered interactive games and activities, along with helpful resources aimed at giving parents ideas and tools to support their children's academic success.

Families moved from room to room, enjoying the artwork while also taking time to participate in activities together. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as students proudly pointed out their creations and shared their work with loved ones.
One of the most memorable experiences of the night was the school’s Glow Room, which quickly became the highlight of the evening.
The room featured an imaginative underwater-themed display of student artwork illuminated under glowing lights. Visitors described the experience as feeling like stepping beneath the ocean’s surface, surrounded by vibrant creations of seahorses, crabs, fish, and sea life crafted by the students. The glowing artwork created a magical environment that captivated both children and adults alike.
The Glow Room offered a unique way to highlight the creativity of Hazel Grove students while also demonstrating how art can transform a space into something truly memorable.

Events like Arts & Academics play an important role in building strong connections between schools and families. By opening classrooms and showcasing student work, Hazel Grove Elementary created an evening where learning, creativity, and community came together.
Parents and grandparents left the event not only impressed by the artistic talents of the students but also encouraged by the school’s efforts to support both creativity and academic growth.
Hannah Johnson, an art teacher at HGES, expressed, "One of the most special parts of teaching art is watching students feel proud of their artwork. Seeing students with their families tonight pointing out their art, makes all the hard work worth it."
"From the neon underwater glow room to the creative dessert sculptures in the cafeteria, our kindergarten through fifth grade artists turned the school into a gallery of color, creativity, and joy," Johnson added.
Hazel Grove Elementary continues to find creative ways to engage families and celebrate student achievements, and Monday night’s event was a shining example of how art can bring a school community together.
