A Taste of Home at Captain D’s in Cornelia
By: Nora Almazan

Sometimes, eating out isn’t just about the food—it’s about the feeling you get when you walk through the door.
That’s exactly what I experienced during a recent visit to Captain D’s
, located at 120 Furniture Drive in Cornelia.
From the moment I stepped inside, it was clear this wasn’t just another quick stop for lunch. In fact, one of the first things I witnessed set the tone for the entire visit. An elderly gentleman walked in, smiling, returning one of the restaurant’s beepers—something he had accidentally taken home in his pocket the day before. Instead of awkwardness or inconvenience, the moment was met with laughter and kindness.
That’s when I noticed something special.
One of the team members, Memori Collins, greeted him warmly and carried on a conversation that felt more like family than customer service. It didn’t feel scripted or rushed—it felt genuine. It felt like walking into a place where people know each other, where neighbors are welcomed, and where laughter comes easy.
That same atmosphere carried throughout the entire restaurant.
I ordered the lemon pepper salmon, paired with fried okra and coleslaw—a classic Southern combination done right. The food was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you hope for when you sit down for a comforting meal.
But what stood out even more than the food was the environment. The restaurant was clean, inviting, and full of life. Team members moved easily through the dining room, helping guests carry trays, refilling drinks, and checking in with customers—not out of obligation, but out of care. Conversations flowed. Laughter echoed. It felt less like a restaurant and more like a gathering place.
As I prepared to leave, I took a moment to speak with Memori Collins. Her words perfectly captured what makes this location so special.
“I’m big on family,” she said with a smile. “I spent a lot of time with my grandparents growing up. I want every customer who comes in here—I want to treat them like they are at home. I love what I do.”
And it shows.
In a world where customer service can sometimes feel rushed or impersonal, the Captain D’s in Cornelia offers something refreshingly different—a place where people matter, where kindness is intentional, and where a simple meal can turn into a meaningful experience.
If you’re looking for more than just something to eat, this is a place worth visiting.
Because sometimes, the best thing on the menu… is how you’re treated.
