Two individuals are in custody following a shots-fired incident Tuesday night at Stephens County High School.
According to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 8 p.m. on February 10, 2026, to reports of gunfire in the student parking lot while two sporting events were taking place on campus.
School Resource Officers who were already on duty at the school were alerted to possible gunshots and immediately responded along with the Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit and school administrators.
Officials initiated a lockdown that lasted about 30 minutes as deputies secured the area, interviewed witnesses, collected evidence, and reviewed security camera footage.
Investigators later determined that a driver and passenger fired multiple shots in the parking lot before leaving campus. No injuries were reported.
By approximately 8:30 p.m., the scene was declared safe and the lockdown was lifted.
Authorities identified two suspects during the investigation, and arrest warrants were obtained for Aggravated Assault. Both individuals were taken into custody on February 11 and transported to the Stephens County Jail. Additional charges are pending, and both suspects remain incarcerated.
Sheriff Rusty Fulbright addressed the seriousness of the incident, “No student, parent, or teacher should have to fear going to school or attending a sporting event."
Fulbright added, “We will not tolerate behavior that endangers Stephens County students and families. I am proud of everyone who worked quickly and diligently to secure the scene and ensure the safety of students and spectators.”
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Criminal Investigations Division tip line at (706) 886-7048, the non-emergency dispatch line at (706) 779-3911, or submit a tip through the Sheriff’s Office mobile app.
Officials say the Sheriff’s Office will continue working with school officials to maintain safety on campus.
