Habersham Community Theatre Delivers Big Laughs with Something Rotten!

Community theatre at its very best is when the audience forgets they are watching neighbors, friends, and coworkers on a local stage and instead feels transported into a full-scale Broadway production. That is exactly what the Habersham Community Theatre accomplishes with its latest musical, Something Rotten!

From the moment the curtain rises, the show launches into a whirlwind of comedy, music, and nonstop energy. The humor fires at the audience constantly. You barely recover from laughing at one joke, line, or bit of physical comedy before another comes flying your way. The pacing is fast, clever, and delightfully over the top — exactly what musical comedy is supposed to be.

The production is directed by Adam Wiley, who once again demonstrates his ability to bring a polished, high-quality performance to the stage for local audiences to enjoy. Wiley continues to raise the bar for community theatre in our area, delivering a production that feels far larger than its stage.

Assisting him are Katie Johnson as Assistant Director and Austin Weyrich as Assistant Assistant Director, both helping guide a large and energetic cast through a demanding production.

What is perhaps most surprising is the depth of vocal talent on display. Under the musical direction of LeAnne Challenger — a name synonymous with exceptional musical ability in the region — the cast delivers powerful harmonies and confident vocals. Assistant Musical Director Allison York helps support a musical score that is both challenging and lively, and the ensemble rises to meet it beautifully.

Carson Whitt shines as William Shakespeare, stealing scenes with ease. His sharp wit and sarcastic swagger make his portrayal both hilarious and memorable, and he keeps the audience engaged every time he steps on stage.

Anthony Schandel and Richard Canal Tinius portray the struggling Bottom brothers — orphaned playwrights determined to create a successful play. Their chemistry anchors the story and gives heart to the production, balancing the satire with genuine charm.

Aubrey Glencamp delivers one of the evening’s most entertaining character performances as Brother Jeremiah, the ever-watchful Puritan obsessed with rooting out sin. His comedic timing and exaggerated seriousness produce some of the night’s biggest laughs.

Perhaps the audience favorite, however, is Nostradamus, played by the multi-talented Chris Parker. His eccentric soothsayer is delightfully absurd and provides some of the most hilarious moments of the show.

The movement and dance numbers are standouts as well. Mollie Cutchshaw’s choreography energizes the production and often steals the scene, enhanced by tap choreography from Zoe Simmons and movement coordination by Kerri Pugh. The cast of 34 performers fills the stage with life, making every scene feel vibrant and full.

Something Rotten! is not just entertaining — it is a reminder of how much talent exists right here in our own community. The Habersham Community Theatre has delivered a production filled with laughter, strong voices, and memorable performances.

Opening night is Wednesday, February 11. The show runs February 11–15 and February 18–22 at the Habersham Community Theatre in Clarkesville. Tickets are available online or at the door.

If you enjoy musical comedy, this is a must-see performance.
