A firearm was discharged in the parking lot during a school event at Stephens County High School in the evening hours of Tuesday, Feb. 10, according to school officials. No injuries were reported.

Officials say the school was placed on a precautionary lockdown as local law enforcement responded to the scene. The lockdown was later lifted after officers secured the area.

Stephens County School System continues to work closely with law enforcement as the investigation continues, according to officials, who described the case as active and ongoing.

“The safety and security of our students, staff and community remain our highest priority,” the district said in a statement via Facebook.

School officials expressed appreciation to local law enforcement for their swift response and acknowledged the cooperation of staff and event attendees.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
