Christians Around the World Unite for Global Week of Prayer

For seven days this September, Christians across denominations, communities and national borders are joining together with one common purpose: prayer.

The Global Week of 24-7 Prayer is underway September 6–13, with organizers seeking to create an unbroken chain of prayer spanning nations around the world.

Organized by the international 24-7 Prayer movement, the initiative encourages churches, groups and individuals to establish prayer rooms where participants sign up for different periods of time, allowing prayer to continue throughout the day and night.

The first Global Week of Prayer was held in 2025 and included participation from 140 nations. This year, organizers hope to see prayer taking place in every nation on earth. In the United States alone, more than 500 prayer rooms have registered to participate.

‘At the Name of Jesus’

The theme for 2026 is “At the Name of Jesus,” taken from Philippians 2:9–11, which speaks of God giving Jesus “the name that is above every name.”

Organizers say the week is intended to unite Christians across national and denominational lines in acknowledging Jesus as Lord and praying for their homes, communities, cities, nations and the world.

The concept of 24-hour prayer doesn't mean one person stays awake praying for an entire week.

Instead, participants take different time slots. One person or group might pray for an hour before another takes over, creating a continuous chain of prayer.

Prayer rooms can be established in churches, homes, classrooms or other community spaces. Groups unable to maintain an in-person prayer room around the clock can participate virtually or combine in-person and online prayer. Organizers also emphasize that groups do not have to fill every hour of the week to participate.

Prayer Beyond the Church Walls

The week isn't limited to organized church gatherings.

Individuals can set aside their own time for prayer, families can pray together, and churches can partner with other congregations to divide prayer times among them.

The international organization is also hosting online prayer gatherings throughout the week, allowing Christians in different countries to pray together in real time. Special daily devotional material is available through the Lectio 365 app, along with resources for creative prayer stations and guided prayer.

Organizers describe the week not only as an opportunity to pray but also as a call for prayer to lead to service, humility and love for others after the designated week has ended.

How to Participate

Those wishing to participate don't necessarily need a formal program or even a designated prayer room. A person can choose a time each day to pray from home, during a lunch break, on a walk or with family and friends.

Churches and community groups can also register prayer rooms and invite people to sign up for individual prayer times.

The Global Week of 24-7 Prayer continues through Sunday, September 13.

For people of faith, organizers say the invitation is simple: wherever you are, make room to pray—and know that somewhere else in the world, someone is praying too.
