Piedmont University to Host 9th Annual PAL Games for Students with Special Needs

Piedmont University will once again host one of its most heartwarming traditions when the Piedmont PAL (Piedmont Athletic Lions) Games return on March 19, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event brings together Piedmont students and elementary school children with special needs for a day filled with games, laughter, and meaningful connections.

Now in its ninth year, the PAL Games began in 2015 and have become a cherished experience for both the university students who volunteer and the children who participate. The event paused for two years during the COVID-19 pandemic but quickly resumed as one of the most anticipated days on the Piedmont campus.

Organized by Ann Sutton, Vice President for Advancement and Development at Piedmont University, the student-led event pairs each elementary student with a Piedmont “PAL.” Throughout the day, the pairs participate together in a variety of fun activities designed to encourage movement, confidence, and joy.

Students can try their hand at games such as lacrosse, basketball, soccer, and “Minion” bowling, while music and group dancing with the university’s beloved mascot Leo the Lion keep the energy high. For children who prefer quieter activities, options like face-painting and crafts provide a welcoming space to create and relax.

More than just a day of games, the PAL Games are about connection. As the day unfolds, many of the young students form special bonds with their Piedmont PALs. By the end of the event, it’s common for the elementary students to feel reluctant to leave the new friend they’ve spent the day with.

To capture those meaningful moments, organizers take a photo of each child and their PAL, giving participants a keepsake that reflects the friendships formed throughout the day.

Year after year, the PAL Games continue to highlight the spirit of service and compassion among Piedmont students while creating a joyful and inclusive experience for children with special needs.
