Habersham County announces the resignation of Public Works Director and Capital Projects Manager Jerry Baggett. Mr. Baggett submitted his resignation in person on January 21, 2026.
At Mr. Baggett’s request, the resignation was not made public at that time so it would not distract Public Works staff during response and cleanup efforts related to a predicted winter weather event. His decision to resign was made prior to the recent winter storms and was unrelated to those events.
Mr. Baggett’s resignation will be effective February 11, 2026.
Mr. Baggett began his service with the county in 2021 and has served in dual roles as Public Works Director and Capital Projects Manager. During his tenure, he provided leadership across Public Works operations and capital projects, contributing significantly to infrastructure improvements and services that benefit the community.
Following his departure, Assistant Public Works Director Mac Koon will help oversee department operations to ensure continuity of services. Supervisors within the Road and Fleet Departments will continue managing day-to-day operations during the interim period.
The County will begin the process of identifying Mr. Baggett’s successor by updating the job description, with the position expected to be posted within the coming weeks. Once applications are received, the County will follow its standard interview process and selection process to identify the most qualified candidate.
County leadership extends sincere appreciation to Jerry Baggett for his years of service and dedication. He will be greatly missed, and the County wishes him continued success as he moves into the next chapter of his professional career.
