Final School Resource Officer Position Filled

Joel Compton has been hired and has officially assumed his duties as a school resource officer, completing the Sheriff's Office goal of placing an SRO in every county school. Compton's addition brings the number of Habersham County Sheriff's Office SROs to 12.

School resource officers are specially selected and trained law enforcement officers who work collaboratively within school environments. Their role includes providing a law enforcement presence while building positive relationships with students, faculty, and community.

"We value our partnership with the school system, and I especially appreciate the hard work and dedication of our school superintendent, Patrick Franklin," said Habersham County Sheriff Robin Krockum. "It has been a goal of ours to fully staff these positions so every school in Habersham County will have their own school resource officer."

The Habersham County Board of Education Police Department provides coverage at Habersham Central High School. Elementary schools located within the city limits of Baldwin and Demorest are served by those municipalities' police departments. Habersham County Sheriff's Office SROs handle coverage for the remaining schools throughout the county and provide backup support to city police SROs as needed.

Habersham County schools include Baldwin, Clarkesville, Cornelia, Demorest, Fairview, Hazel Grove, Level Grove, and Woodville elementary schools; North Habersham, South Habersham, and Wilbanks middle schools; the Habersham Ninth Grade Academy; Habersham Success Academy; and Habersham Central High School.
