Banks County Commissioners to Consider 2026 Millage Rate at Called Meeting Tuesday

The Banks County Board of Commissioners will hold a called meeting Tuesday evening with the county's 2026 millage rate, a planning and zoning appeal, courthouse improvements and public safety purchases among the items scheduled for consideration.

The meeting will be held Tuesday, August 25, at 6:30 p.m. in the Courthouse Annex Boardroom, located at 150 Hudson Ridge in Homer.

One of the most significant items on the agenda is a resolution to adopt the 2026 millage rate. The agenda does not specify the proposed rate or provide details about how it compares with the previous year's rate.

Commissioners will also revisit two matters under previous business.

The board is scheduled to continue a discussion involving software for the Banks County Probate Court and consider the Chambers Landing appeal through the county's Planning and Zoning Department.

Another item involves work on the Banks County Courthouse. Commissioners will consider Change Order for the courthouse roof replacement project.

Public safety and county road operations are also on Tuesday's agenda. The Roads and Bridges Department is requesting consideration of snow plows for pickup trucks, while Banks County Fire/EMS has submitted a stucco quote for Station 21.

Data Center Moratorium Coming Before Commissioners

Tuesday's agenda also provides a look ahead at several issues expected to come before commissioners at their September 8 meeting.

Among those is a proposed special-use “Data Center” moratorium. An R-1 moratorium is also listed as an upcoming agenda item.

Commissioners are also expected to consider a Public Utilities credit-check application policy and a proclamation recognizing Recovery Month at the September meeting.
