Rabun Co.- Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is actively investigating a situation that occurred at Lake Burton Thursday, Aug. 22.
Rabun County Fire Services along with Rabun County Emergency Medical Services were called out to the scene around 4:42 p.m. Thursday afternoon about a woman who had been heavily injured.
According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division, the female was originally thought to have been possibly hit by a boat, but the boat involvement was later ruled out.
The victim was flown by AirLife Georgia 14 to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for medical attention.
Dan Elrod with DNR spoke with WCHM Friday afternoon about the event, describing that the situation has changed since the day prior, stating “There have been a few stories on what happened but we’re not entirely sure.”
Elrod noted that it was difficult for DNR to investigate the situation due to the lack of witnesses and the victim having to go into surgery.
“DNR is actively investigating,” Elrod told WCHM. The victim's name and the condition are still unknown.
