Woman Dies During Panther Creek Rescue

A 23-year-old woman died after she was found unresponsive on Panther Creek Trail.

Habersham 911 received the call at 9:41 p.m. Sunday night but efforts to save the woman were unsuccessful.

"When they made access to the patient, she was very critical at that time and ended up going into cardiac arrest," said Habersham Emergency Services Director Chad Black.

Black said resuscitative efforts were administered but "those efforts were unsuccessful and the patient did not survive," Black said. The young woman was transported to Habersham Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Habersham County Emergency Services, Tallulah Falls Fire Department, Habersham Search and Rescue and Lee Arrendale Fire all responded and the incident remains under investigation by the Habersham County Sheriff's Office and Habersham County Coroner's Office.

The State Medical Examiner's Office in Decatur is performing an autopsy.

This was the fifth rescue operation performed at Panther Creek since March.
