Batesville - Habersham County 911 received a call around 8:13 p.m., Monday, March 16, after a passerby noticed what appeared to be a barn on fire.
Habersham County Emergency Services, along with White and Rabun Counties, plus the Lee Arrendale Fire Brigade responded to the scene, located on Hwy 255 and Sunburst Ln. near Batesville.
Upon arrival, units found a 1,000-1,200 square foot barn “80% involved in the fire,” said Emergency Services Director Chad Black.
As of 9:30 p.m., most of the fire had been knocked out. Crews remained on scene for several hours putting out hotspots.
Black says there were no horses in the barn, rather “only some birds and ducks that unfortunately perished from the fire.”
Black goes on to say that the cause of the fire is still unknown.
