Habersham Co. - A Tuesday afternoon wreck claimed the life of one Athens woman.
Emergency personnel was dispatched to Ga 365 in Demorest, south of Double Bridge Road, at approximately 3:40 p.m. Tuesday.
When they arrived they found a 1998 Toyota 4Runner driven by Felipe Reyes Musngi, 73, of Athens, had traveled off the roadway and into the median with all four of its tires before over-correcting back to the right.
According to Assistant Post Commander, Sgt. Casey Coffee of Georgia State Patrol Post 7, the vehicle “then began to rotate clockwise before yawing across both of the southbound lanes of GA 365 and then traveling off the roadway again on the west shoulder.”
The vehicle then struck a guardrail face followed by several roadside trees as it overturned. The vehicle then came to a final rest on its passenger’s side off the roadway facing west.
Felipe Musngi was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment.
His wife and passenger, Gemma Musngi, 74, of Athens sustained fatal injuries in the crash.
The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation.
