Habersham Co. - During the Board of Education monthly meeting, Superintendant Matthew Cooper mentioned that South Habersham Middle School was named a Governor's 2019 Award School.
On their website, the school writes “Congratulations to South Habersham Middle School for being named a Governor's 2019 Award School!”
“South Habersham Middle has received the Governor's Office of Student Achievement 2019 Bronze Award for Greatest Gains,” they continue. “This award is based on average improvement of CCRPI scores for the past three years - 2017, 2018, and 2019. To receive an award a school's improvement must rank in at least the 93rd percentile among all Georgia schools. Only 130 schools out of 2447 (elementary, middle, and high) were named an Award School in 2019. Only 4 of 15 systems in our RESA have an Award School on the list in 2019.”
“I was very pleased,” Cooper says. “Only 130 Georgia schools made this list.”
Cooper goes on to say he counted the number of public schools in Georgia which added up to be over 2,000.
This Award School status is in addition to already being named a Title I Distinguished School for 2019, which was announced during the December monthly meeting.
Cooper went on to discuss the recent spelling bee champion, also from South Habersham Middle School.
