CORNELIA - A week after Pinnacle Bank celebrated its new branch in Clarkesville, there was more cause for cheer as the bank held a ribbon-cutting on Tuesday to announce a new location in Cornelia. The new branch is located at 218 Carpenter's Cove Lane.
"We're really excited about being here," Pinnacle CEO Jackson McConnell said as he addressed a crowd of around 50 people. "One of the things Pinnacle prides itself on is its commitment to the communities that we live and serve in and this is a great example of it."
Keeping with that Pinnacle tradition, McConnell presented Habersham Christian Learning Center with a check to help in its effort of teaching Christian morals, ethics and values to local high school students during their school day. All of the non-profit's operational funds come from churches, businesses, civic clubs and the United Way.
Kevin Mangum, Pastor at Riverpoint Community Church, also thanked Pinnacle and the Habersham Chamber of Commerce for "making a difference in our community and in our country." Mangum shared a story about the financial assistance his church received six years ago from the bank when it found out that a new building was needed to house a growing congregation. With Pinnacle's help, the church made the move from an overcrowded storefront in downtown Cornelia to a larger stand-alone structure on 15 acres.
"We needed some help," Mangum said, "and to be honest, three or four other banks weren't willing. At that point, this bank stepped in and made a huge difference for Riverpoint Community Church."
The new location is one that's been in the making for a while, according to Senior Vice President Sidney Roland who said the bank has been wanting to get to Cornelia for almost 15 years. McConnell credited Roland with having the vision to get the bank built.
"I can remember sitting at that light right over there facing this way a little less than two years ago," Roland said, "and I saw a little development going on over here and saw this little piece of land and said man, that would be a good spot for a bank."
Pinnacle is one of the largest community banks in Georgia with 22 locations in 14 counties across the state. The bank has approximately $1.5 billion in total assets.
