The county wanted it done quickly so they did the paving themselves. And New Liberty Road in the north part of the county is now open after five months of closure. A new set of culverts is in place and so is a much straighter path for southbound travelers who spent all winter detouring north to Watts Mill road.
That’s commissioner Tim Stamey who lives north of that area in Batesville. And he’s ok with there not being a lot of fanfare for the re-opening.
Nearly 200 Piedmont students participated in the college’s annual disaster drill Wednesday, which simulated a tornado and fire in the Swanson Center for the Performing Arts. Lot of law enforcement and emergency personnel were part of it, including emergency services director Chad Black.
And never has a fire truck been the subject of so much conversation. The Demorest city council is divided on the need and the cost and now that the county might take over Demorest fire operations, wouldn’t the county need to buy it back from Demorest? Demorest councilman Nathan Davis says that’s a matter of debate. But what’s more important he says is going ahead and getting it.
Talks continue between the county and the city about the merits of the merger.
