Mt. Airy Woman Charged With Murder, Aggravated Assault, Tampering With Evidence, And Cruelty To Children

Mt. Airy - A stabbing call in Mt. Airy resulted in one dead at the scene.

On Saturday, Jan. 18 at approximately 11:05 p.m., Habersham County E911 Dispatch received an emergency call in reference to a possible stabbing at 376 Ben Loudermilk Rid, Mt. Airy, Georgia. 

Deputies responded to the location, where they located a male subject lying on the floor in the residence. 

The man was later identified as Joshua Matthew Canady, 37, of Toccoa.

Also located at the residence was Kayla Maria Parker, 31, of Mt. Airy, and two juveniles.

Deputies administered CPR until Habersham County Fire and EMS arrived on scene and took over emergency treatment of the subject. 

All efforts to resuscitate Canady were unsuccessful and Canady was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Habersham County Sheriff’s Office criminal investigators were called to the scene to investigate the circumstances of the incident.

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, sheriff’s office investigators obtained warrants against Kayla Parker, which consisted of one count of Murder, one count of Aggravated Assault, one count of Tampering with Evidence, and two counts of Cruelty to Children.

Kayla Parker is currently being held at the Habersham County Detention Center.
