Habersham Co. - Habersham’s very own Jessie Owensby has been included in Georgia Trend Magazine’s distinguished 40 under 40 feature that showcases 40 individuals with a passion for serving their communities.
Owensby was a Mass Communication graduate of Piedmont College, former News Director at WCON Radio in Cornelia, a recent GCED graduate, and is now the Community Development Manager for the City of Cornelia.
“It feels really weird.,” Owensby told WCHM. “I'm not used to people congratulating me for things or getting any kind of recognition or anything like that because I’m just doing my job and I’m just doing what I do because I have a love and a passion for my city and for where I live and where I want my kids to live when they grow up.”
Owensby continued saying, “Someone did nominate me...but I don’t know who it was, so whoever it was, thank you.”
“I’m very, very active in the community,” Owensby told WCHM.
Owensby along with her kids are active voices in the community. Owensby notes that she is the Vice President of Kiwanis, works for women’s business empowerment in SOAR, and is very active in her church.
“We’re just really involved in the community because that’s where we live. If you don’t love where you live then why live there,” Owensby asked?
“I’m really not sure what exactly it was that made people think I’m deserving of this but I’m very appreciative of it,” Owensby said.
