Alto - The investigation continues for an early morning house fire that left one dead and one arrested over the weekend.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the 600 block of Yonah Post Rd. in Alto Saturday, March 7, around 6:45 a.m., after being notified of a structure fire with unknown entrapment.

When deputies arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames and they located an unknown female who was deceased on scene, Emergency personnel say.

The suspect has been arrested and identified as Jeremy Ray Chastain of Clarkesville.

Habersham County Sheriff’s Lt. Matthew Wurtz tells WCHM that “Chastain has been arrested for criminal trespass concerning this incident.” It was reported by other media outlets that Chastain was wanted for murder but according to arrested records, Chastain has only been charged with criminal trespass and false statements and writings.
