Holiday Weekend Marred by Drownings

Two men died over the weekend in separate drowning incidents on Lake Lanier.

The first drowning happened at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Officials from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said a 59-year-old Clarke County man jumped from a moving boat and never resurfaced. His body was recovered from the lake at around 7 p.m. on Friday.

On Saturday afternoon, the man was identified as Bruce Lee Hild on Winterville. Because Hild jumped from a moving boat, the incident is being classified as a boating fatality, according to DNR spokesman Mark McKinnon.

The second drowning occurred about 12:30 p.m. at Lanier Park near Buford. A 45-year-old man, later identified as Jesus Jimenez of Killeen, TX, disappeared while swimming near the beach. Game wardens responded to the area and Jimenez's body was eventually found by another swimmer.
