High Speed Chase Leads To Drug Bust

Cornelia - Yesterday at 4:35 pm Habersham County Sheriff’s Deputies were involved in a vehicle pursuit.  Deputies stopped a black in color Ford Focus on Georgia Hwy 385 just before the traffic light at Camp Creek Rd, Cornelia, Ga for a minor traffic violation.  As the Deputy was approaching the vehicle the driver fled. The vehicle was pursued on Hwy 385 and went left onto Clarkesville St, then left again onto Elrod St. The vehicle crashed on Elrod St just before the intersection of Chase Rd, Cornelia, Ga.

The suspect, Jonathan Pitts, age 31, of Mt Airy, Ga, was arrested for Trafficking Meth, Possession Marijuana less than 1oz, Possession of Heroin, Possession of THC oil, Probation Violation, Fleeing and attempt to elude, obstruction of a officer, and several other traffic violations. Pitts is currently in the Habersham County Detention Center awaiting bond to be set on his charges. There were no other vehicles involved in the chase and Pitts vehicle was the only vehicle damaged from the crash.
