HCSO chase ends in one car accident

CORNELIA - Last night Habersham County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were involved in a motor vehicle pursuit on HWY 105, ending when the vehicle in pursuit crashed in Cornelia.

A BOLO was issued for a green Toyota truck that was reportedly, "driving all over the roadway," as reported to dispatch.  When spotted in the vicinity of Cannon Bridge, a Sheriff's deputy activated the emergency lights in order to perform a routine traffic stop.  The driver refused to stop, and a vehicle pursuit was initiated.  Amy Gibbs, 31 of Mt. Airy, was later identified as the driver, and navigated through on coming traffic multiple times before the responding Deputy initiated a Pursuit Intervention Technique in order to prevent Gibbs from driving through the congested intersection of HWY 105 and HWY 385.  The green Toyota was pushed sideways, and Gibbs was ejected from the vehicle as it started to roll.  Gibbs was treated at Northeast Georgia Medical Center for her injuries, but was also subsequently charged with DUI by the Georgia State Patrol who also responded to the scene of the crash, and with fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lane by the Habersham County Sheriff's Department.
