CLARKESVILLE, GA - Habersham EMC's Board of Directors has approved a rate decrease for its members by reducing the Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment (WPCA) factor for the remainder of 2018. This reduction will benefit almost every Habersham EMC (HEMC) member.
In November 2018, HEMC members will save $28.00 for every 1,000 kWh used, resulting in a total savings of approximately $2.5 million for the membership. The actual savings will vary depending on the amount of energy used. Since the WPCA factor varies, the December reduction will be announced in the first week of December 2018.
The WPCA factor reflects the fluctuations in HEMC's cost of wholesale power purchased. This adjustment to the WPCA will lower the electricity rate for almost every HEMC member on their energy bills during November and December 2018.
As part of HEMC's commitment to improving transparency, the electric bills have been changed to show the three components that were previously presented in the total electricity charge:
- Energy - charge for the kilowatt hour usage based upon the rate. This is the first line of the bill.
- Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment - reflects the fluctuations in HEMC's cost of wholesale power purchased.
- Facilities Charge - also referred to as the Service Charge in the rate schedules. This recovers expenses incurred by HEMC such as equipment, line maintenance, metering and billing services.
