Habersham County Sees Second Death; Prison Sees 3 Confirmed Cases

Habersham Co. - Habersham County has seen another COVID-19 related death as of Wednesday, April 15.

The first death was of 79-year-old women and was reported over the weekend. The most recent death was that of a 40-year-old woman. Both women did have underlying health issues, but it was not reported what they were.

The hospital stated that the first death did not occur at Habersham Medical Center. WCHM is working on finding out if the second death could have been at that location.

As of 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, Habersham County saw a spike in confirmed COVID-19 cases with 44 positive cases.

Lee Arrendale State Prison sees positive cases
Lee Arrendale State Prison has also reported three positive cases recently. 

Two staff members and one inmate were reported to have tested positive on April 9 and April 10 according to the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Public Affairs Director Joan Health.

According to the GDC website, the prisons will continue to ensure offenders in custody receive all necessary treatment and services:

• Medical and mental health treatment
• Access to the phone and kiosks
• Cleaning supplies and hand soap
• Law Library
• Commissary
