Gainesville Woman Arrested for Exploitation of Elderly

GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Sheriff's Office concluded an investigation lasting nearly three months with the arrest of a Gainesville woman on charges of exploitation of an elderly person.

According to preliminary reports, Ashley Caroline Ferguson, 42, used the victim's monetary funds for her own benefit and advantage through deceitful means during the month of April.

Ferguson worked as a caretaker for the victim's husband and had access to the couple's credit card to buy groceries.

But on May 26 at approximately 3 p.m., Hall County Sheriff's Deputies were notified that a woman, who turned out to be Ferguson, was allegedly using the 83-year-old female victim's credit card for her own personal purchases. The victim discovered the charges while reviewing her credit card statement.

A warrant was issued for Ferguson's arrest and she was subsequently arrested on Friday, May 29, at her residence. She was released the same day after posting a $26,000 bond.

The case, including the dollar amounts of fraudulent transactions, remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office.
