Demorest - A family was hit by a drunk driver over the weekend in a head-on collision in Demorest.
At approximately 12:27 p.m. Sunday, April 26, on GA 105 and Robin Lane according to Assistant Post Commander Georgia State Patrol Post 7 Toccoa CPL. John Getty.
Carlos Amador, 39, of Ellijay was traveling north on GA 105, driving a 2006 GMC Envoy.
Marco Antonio Arriaga, 29, of Demorest was driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler southbound when Amador crossed a double yellow centerline and traveled into the southbound lane and directly into Arriaga’s lane of travel. The passenger was Fabiola Arriaga of Demorest.
Amador then struck the Jeep head-on as Arriaga steered to the right shoulder and attempted to avoid an impact.
Getty says that Arriaga was taken for treatment of unspecified injuries to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Mrs. Arriaga sustained no injury.
Amador was charged with DUI, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, failure to maintain lane, and failure to change his address on his license. He was taken to Habersham County Medical Center by ambulance with unspecified injuries. Amador was later booked and released from the Habersham County Detention Center.
