Habersham Co. - The voters of Habersham County voted and the results are in.

 

Voters voted down the $31.7 million jail bond referendum with a total of 1,828 voters (47.94%) saying yes to the bond and 1,985 voters (52.06%) voting against the bond. 

 

For the Habersham County Commissioner District 5 seat, there will be a runoff election on Dec. 3. Among the five candidates who were running for the vacant seat, Darrin Johnston received top votes with 1,054 voters (28.78%) in favor of him and Tim Stamey in second with 876 votes (23.92%) in favor for him to take the seat.

 

Both Cornelia and Clarkesville passed their Sunday Brunch Bills. Clarkesville with 149 voters (69.30%) voting in favor of having restaurants serving alcohol starting at 11 a.m. 66 of Clarkesville voters (30.70%) did, however, vote against the bill. 207 of Cornelia voters (70.89%) said they were in favor of the bill, while 85 (29.11%) were against it.

For County Commissioner District 5 (To fill the unexpired term of Ed Nichols)

GEORGE LOCKE ARNOLD - 501 votes (13.68%)

MICHAEL D. GOSNELL - 547 votes (14.94%)

DARRIN JOHNSTON - 1054 votes (28.78%)

TIM STAMEY - 876 votes (23.92%)

BARRY TROTTER  - 661 votes (18.05%)

There were 23 write in votes equalling 0.63%

Yes - 1828 votes (47.94%)
