Driver Strikes Sign, Sustains No Injuries

Clarkesville - If you drive by the Habersham County Administration Building right now, chances are you will find the sign at the entrance in a pile of rubble.

According to Assistant Post Commander for Georgia State Patrol Post 7 Toccoa, Casey Coffee, Kayla Otto, 27, of Clarkesville was driving a 2015 Dodge Ram on GA Hwy 17 when she slammed into the sign.

The incident occurred Thursday, Feb. 20, around 5:22 p.m.

Coffee notes that Otto “was traveling too fast on the wet road in the snow.”

Coffee goes on to say that a witness had slowed to make a left turn onto Rocky Branch Rd. when Otto was “unable to stop and turned right to avoid striking the vehicle.”

Otto then traveled off the roadway striking the sign of the recreation area and came to an uncontrolled rest on top of the sign.

Otto sustained no injuries but was charged with driving too fast for conditions and received a warning for following too closely and failure to maintain the lane.
