DNR Asking Help With Info Regarding Boating Accident On Lake Burton

Rabun Co. - The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division is seeking help to find more information regarding the woman who was in a boating accident on Lake Burton.

The incident occurred at Lake Burton Thursday, Aug. 22. between 4 and 6 p.m, just south of Governor’s Cove, according to DNR spokesman Mark McKinnon.

McKinnon states that the 29-year-old woman was swimming near her family’s boathouse on Lake Burton where she was hit by a passing boat. McKinnon told WCHM that the victim had “lacerations on her arm and on her head.” He continued, stating “I don’t know how serious those were.”

“She is going to recover,” McKinnon noted.

Dan Elrod with DNR states that “DNR is still investigating” the situation as of Wednesday, Aug. 28.

DNR needs the public’s help locating the boat involved in the incident. McKinnon told WCHM that “We don’t have a lot of information, there weren’t a lot of people around.” He also states that the victim had told DNR everything she could but “in a situation like that, it’s very difficult to remember sometimes.”

“It may have been a complete accident, we don’t know,” McKinnon says. “Someone could have struck her and not realized they did.”

He is asking the public with any information, even if they think it’s insignificant, to give them a call at 770.918.6408.
