Demorest Man Arrested After Car Chase

Habersham Co. - What was called in as a reported drunk driver let officers on a car chase to catch the suspect.

This past Sunday, Habersham County issued a BOLO (Be On The Lookout) for a silver 2005 Ford Explorer with a potentially intoxicated driver.

At approximately 4:34 p.m., “CPL (Corporal) Getty #132 initiated a traffic stop of the BOLO vehicle for speeding on Dicks Hill Parkway in Mount Airy,” according to the release sent out by John Getty with the Georgia State Patrol.

“After coming to a stop, the Explorer then fled and CPL Getty became involved in a pursuit,” the release reads. “The Explorer traveled onto Chase Road, then Camp Creek Road.”

The Explorer proceeded to crash into a ditch as it made a right turn onto Wilson Road.

The driver then continued to travel and crashed into an embankment as it attempted to make a left turn onto Lat Wilson Road, coming to a stop and terminating the pursuit. 

The front of CPL Getty’s patrol vehicle made contact with the driver’s door, at which time the driver exited the Explorer and attempted to flee on foot. 

At 4:37 p.m., CPL Getty had the subject in custody.   

The driver was then identified as 49-year-old, Christopher L. Alexander of Demorest.

Mr. Alexander was charged with speeding, DUI, Flee and attempt to elude, reckless driving, aggressive driving, and several other traffic violations.
