COVID-19 Cases Decline Slightly Locally; Hospital Officials Remain Cautious.

...and the numbers bear that out. The weekly tracking website suggests the average daily number is down to 22 from 33 this time last week. Hospital CEO Tyler Williams points to data that now suggests less than half the daily admissions are Covid-related….But he also offers caution.

Cornelia Fire Chief Billy Joe Jenkins walks into a brand new office today as the city now operates out a brand new fire station. The 100 or so monthly calls that the city has taken for the last 18 months will now be split between this and the north end station, says city manager Donald Anderson.

It’s being paid for by a bond financed through the city’s urban redevelopment agency and the county EMS hopes to house an ambulance there soon too. Anderson sees a public ribbon cutting in the works about a month from now. The city employs four full-time firefighters on call 24 hours a day plus the chief and fire marshal.

And Mayor Joe Elam expects a low-key monthly meeting in Baldwin tonight. Swearing in a new member and preliminary budget discussions are among the highlights.
