Cornelia Man Dies Week After Minor Wreck, Toccoa Man Charged With Vehicular Homicide

Habersham Co. - Bruce Douglas Cram has been charged with vehicular homicide after Dec. 7 wreck.

According to the Georgia State Patrol report, the wreck occurred at 8:33 a.m. on Dec. 7, at  Level Grove Road at the GA 365 southbound entrance ramp.

Sgt. 1st Class Chad Johnson of GSP Post 7 in Toccoa tells WCHM that Cram, 56, of Toccoa was driving a 1998 Ford Expedition and the victim, Homer James Stephens, 87, of Cornelia was driving a 2000 Isuzu Hombre.

According to the release, Cram failed to yield while turning left onto the GA 365 southbound entrance ramp and the front of the vehicle struck the front of the vehicle driven by Stephens.

"The area of impact was in the eastbound travel lane of Level Grove Road as determined by the debris field and fluids on the roadway," the release says. "Vehicle #1 and vehicle #2 came to an uncontrolled rest at area of impact."

Cram suffered no injuries, while Stephens suffered minor injuries. Both men refused medical attention Johnson says.

Johnson tells WCHM that Stephens later went to seek medical attention on Dec. 15 due to discomfort in his abdominal region and passed away the next day, Dec.16, "due to complications from injuries received in the crash."

Johnson continues, saying that the medical examiner did confirm Stephens' death was a result of his injuries from the accident.

Cram was charged with failure to yield while turning left and vehicular homicide. He was arrested on Jan. 20 and booked at the Habersham County Detention Center but later released on bond.
