Community mourns death of Sheriff's Deputy / School Resource Officer

Habersham Co. - Late on Friday evening, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Department announced the passing of Sheriff’s Deputy Patrick Mayfield. 

Mayfield's obituary states that he passed July 4th, in Asheville, North Carolina. 

Mayfield was regarded as a fixture in the community as an SRO, school resource officer, as well as a contributor to the athletic department. He was a known figure within many of the schools in Habersham and coached youth sports during his time there. 

Many in the community are shocked by his sudden passing. In a Facebook statement made over the weekend, 10th district state representative, Terry Rogers said, “Saddened to hear of the unexpected passing of Habersham County Sheriffs Deputy Patrick Mayfield. He obviously was a kind and giving man who positively impacted hundreds of young lives daily as a school resource officer. It’s a great loss for our community.”

Funeral services are currently set for Saturday, July 13th at 2 p.m. in the Habersham Central High School Fine Arts Center, doors will open at 1 p.m. Mayfield’s family will be at the funeral home July 12nd, from noon through 2 p.m. accepting friends visitations. 

The funeral home is located at 55 S Alexander St in Toccoa.
