Clarkesville Residents Awakened By Fallen Tree

Habersham Co. - Earlier this morning, Clarkesville residents were awakened by a tree falling on their home.

At 5:37 a.m. Friday morning, Feb. 7, Habersham 911 received a call for a tree down on a residence at 220 Park Place Drive in Clarkesville with occupants still inside the residence.

Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black says "Engine 13, Medic 21, Battalion 1 and Captain 1 (were) dispatched and responded."

Emergency personnel arrived to find tree down across a modular home with one occupant who was sleeping in the living area still inside, and another adult in an area of the home.

Black says "The tree had fallen directly across this area of the home and occupant was attempting to crawl out through the debris and damage from the fallen tree."

Emergency personnel was able to open a rear door and remove all occupants.

According to personnel on the scene, the tree stopped directly above occupant sleeping in this area after falling.

One other adult was also removed along with two cats with no injuries reported.

The residence sustained major damage and at present time not livable according to personnel on the scene.
