UPDATE: HCSO Confirms Murder Charge For Jeramy Chastain

Habersham Co. - Jeramy (Ray) Chastain, 30, is facing a murder charge according to arrest records Tuesday night.

The Habersham County Sheriff's Office confirmed this charge Wednesday morning, March 11, in a release that reads:

"On Tuesday, March 10, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, working in conjunction with the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, secured a warrant for 1 count of Murder against Jeramy Ray Chastain of Dahlonega, Georgia in connection to the incident that occurred at 691 Yonah Post Road, Alto, GA on March 7th, 2020. The investigation remains open and ongoing."

Chastain was arrested late Saturday, following an early morning house fire where authorities found Alecia Grace Stover, 43, of Alto deceased at the scene. An autopsy later revealed Stover died from blunt force injuries to the head and not from the fire.

Chastain was originally facing only two charges: false statements and writings and criminal trespass. As of Tuesday night, March 10, arrest records are now showing a murder charge under his name.

No further information regarding the cause of the house fire or investigation has been released.
