Baldwin - Two weeks removed from a major sweep of White County, the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office has made an arrest in another investigation. On Wednesday December 12th, 2018, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Community Supervision, the Department of Corrections’ K-9 Unit, and the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office executed a search warrant at John Mark Sim’s residence. The search warrant was the culmination of a 6 months investigation. Authorities seized 6 ounces of methamphetamine, 5 ounces of marijuana, a handgun and $1,660. The street value of the illegal narcotics was $20,000. Sims, 52, was arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of marijuana. Sims was transported to the Habersham County Detention Center.
The Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office is a multi-agency unit that consists of the following Sheriff’s Offices: White County, Lumpkin County, Towns County, Banks County, Jackson County, Habersham County, Stephens County, Rabun County, Franklin County the Cleveland Police Department, the Lavonia Police Department, and the Toccoa Police Department, along with the Georgia National Guard Counter Drug Task Force, the Department of Public Safety, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
