UPDATED - Habersham Co. - One person was airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center after a morning wreck on State Hwy 356 at Odis Barron Rd in Habersham County
Around 7 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, Habersham County 911 received a call reporting a roll-over accident with injuries.
“Units arrived to find a vehicle off the roadway that had overturned multiple times with 1 occupant outside the vehicle injured, but ambulatory, and 1 occupant still in the vehicle with serious injuries,” says Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black.
According to Assistant Post Commander for Georgia State Patrol Post 7 Toccoa Sgt. C.J. Coffee, Dalton Chase Palmer, 24, of Blairsville was driving a 2006 Honda Civic, driving east on GA 356.
"While negotiating a curve, the driver of vehicle #1 (Palmer) lost control and traveled off the north shoulder," Coffee says. "Vehicle #1 struck an embankment with the front of vehicle #1 and began to overturn."
Coffee continues, saying "While overturning, vehicle #1 struck a sign. Vehicle #1 came to an uncontrolled final rest upright in the northbound lane of Odis Barron Road."
Palmer was injured in the crash and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by ambulance. His passenger was identified as April Lee, 24, of Blairsville. She was injured in the crash and was transported by life flight to Northeast Georgia Medical Center as a Level 1 Trauma Activation.
According to Black, “Engine 16, Medic 16, Medic 21, Captain and Battalion 1, Habersham S.O. and G.S.P. were dispatched and responded.” Black goes on to say, “Air Life 2, due to location in the far northern end of the county, requested and responded.”
The area has been cleared and Habersham County S.O. and G.S.P. overseeing the investigation of the accident.
Palmer was charged with failure to maintain lane, tire requirements, DUI, and serious injury by vehicle.
